My name is Tonya Betz and I am a Certified Personal Trainer and Post-Rehab Exercise Specialist in Portland, Oregon. As a fitness professional, I long to see a change in our society in the area of health and wellness. It seems that everyday we are hearing new statistics on diabetes, heart disease, childhood obesity, cancer, and other health related topics. Did you know that the condition of our health is greatly determined by our activity level and nutrition?

Exercise not only makes us feel better and increases our overall health, but also is capable of reversing the aging process; it reduces our risk of injury, prevents memory loss, and increases our daily energy level. So why do we so often place exercise and nutrition on our to do list, but never actually follow through?

For most, the answer is simple -- time and discipline and money. The truth is, you can't afford to neglect your health! When our schedules are packed with family, work, school, church, clubs, and other activities and obligations, it is easy to say "I'll workout tomorrow" or "I will eat better tomorrow." The problem is tomorrow never comes and we continue to live in our pattern of unhealthiness. It is my hope that, through one on one instruction, I can help you change this pattern and give both you and your family a lifestyle change that will benefit you in all areas of your life.

Your Health Matters

Have you ever tried to take on a day's work with minimal sleep the night before, only find yourself hovering over the coffee pot all day? When we don't exercise and feed ourselves the right balance of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins to meet our individual needs, we are unable to be good stewards of not only our bodies, but also of our lives, our time, our money, and our service both on the job and off. Our bodies were created with the ability to handle stress and accomplish daily tasks with ease, without insane amounts of caffeine!

Your body is your vessel that enables all other functions of your life. If your body is weak or in disrepair, it is impossible for you to be a good steward of your time, finances, and giftings. Money is spent on medical bills, medications, and foods of convenience (fast food, espresso carts, bento), and is diverted from the people or organizations that we should be giving to. Obviously, as our bodies gain weight and our health diminishes, we are less able to physically carry out tasks that affect our families, our jobs, and our churches and communities.
